Wick Hill plans to increase its exposure to the "big data" sector with the appointment of datacentre WAN optimisation specialist Silver Peak Systems in its home and European markets.
"We've seen a significant move towards datacentre growth and consolidation, and this means that data volumes are rising all the time, so WAN optimisation has become a hot topic," Wick Hill chairman Ian Kilpatrick told MicroScope.
"This vast migration to datacentres, VDI and so on are all driven primarily by a need to make cost savings, but the problem is that you can be no more efficient than your slowest traffic," he added. "Silver Peak fills this gap."
Silver Peak claims to be the only sector vendor that can deliver physical WAN optimisation appliances that effectively scale from small offices to large datacentres, and Wick Hill reckons this will enable it to be an effective market maker for the vendor, targeting resellers it has not previously had much to do with.
"At the SME level there are big opportunities for the channel. This is a good sale for those who understand their customers' network environments," said Kilpatrick.
