Resellers able to offer platform as a service (PaaS) advice to customers look well placed to take advantage of growth in that market over the next couple of years.
The forecasts from Gartner are that as more enterprises get themselves positioned in the cloud the interest and spending on PaaS, which under their definition is a layer of middleware technology that is going to be vital to underpinning the adoption of hosted services.
Although this year marks the early stages of growth, without established leaders or standards, the expectation is that the market is under the starters gun just waiting to take-off.
"With large and growing vendor investment in PaaS, the market is on the cusp of several years of strategic growth," said Yefim Natis, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner.
But along with the positive forecasts of growth there were also warnings that those that were slow to investigate PaaS would be left trying to play catch up with their competition.
"Users and vendors of enterprise IT software solutions that are not yet engaged with PaaS must begin building expertise in PaaS or face tough competition from competitors in the coming years," added Natis.
