Unified comms and collaboration has edged past cloud and virtualisation as the technology most in demand from IT directors as the bring your own device (BYOD) trend starts to have serious implications on infrastructure.
The shifting patterns in demand has seen virtualisation dip as UC and collaboration races past in the last quarter of 2011, according to the latest research from the latest Pearlfinders IT Index, which monitors trends and opinions in the IT world.
"Ongoing efforts to integrate tablet devices into corporate networks, as well as network maintenance challenges to support BYOD culture, are fueling investment here," stated the latest Index.
The impact of tablets in particular has been dramatic in the enterprise with them moving in the space of a year from the front office functions that are primarily customer-facing to now include back-office staff in the warehouse and logisitics professionals.
That widening of the market has not just posed challenges for customers but is also seen as a hurdle that the channel needs to successfully overcome.
"Tablet resellers and unifed communications consultancies need to ensure they're robustly adapting their sales logic to appeal to trhe broadening range of stakeholdres making decision on an investment in tablet computing," stated the Pearlfinders Index.
