Avangate hires UK sales boss to beef up local presence

Channel management and e-commerce software specialist Avangate has announced the appointment of software industry veteran Mike Smith as its UK sales manager, charged with ramping up the firm's online software distribution activities in the midmarket.

Smith already has form in the sector, having overseen the expansion of CRM specialists Edify and RightNow Technologies - bought last year by Oracle - into the UK.

"As an early adopter of cloud and new online channel models the UK is a key market to us, [and] Mike's experience in the software and SaaS industries make him exactly right to drive Avangate's expansion," explained the firm's EMEA sales vice president, Laurentiu Ghenciu.

Avangate's core SkyCommerce product is designed to simplify the software channel sales model, and boasts features including a partner order and revenue management system, as well as a global affiliate network.

Despite the firm's focus being on helping software publishers penetrate the channel, Smith told MicroScope that he saw "a lot of opportunity for the reseller market" as well.

"We have a network of 30,000 affiliates and we're looking to expand our network of resellers on the platform as well. We have not courted them so far, that's a medium-term goal," added Ghenciu.
