Microsoft has added a small business competency to its partner network to encourage resellers to target that market sector.
The vendor believes that the SME market it worth a potential £94bn and it has the products to appeal to smaller customers.
As well as on-premise products there is an expectation those qualifying for the competency will also be delivering cloud-based applications.
Resellers have contributed to designing the competency and it will exist for six months alongside the current small business specialist community programme before that becomes a partner-to-partner community.
"This competency will help us drive growth in the UK channel and further develop the cloud business our partners can offer to SMBs," said Janet Gibbons, Microsoft's director of partner strategy and programmes.
"We know that our partners value the Small Business Specialist programme, so we will aim to provide a smooth transition so partners can adapt to this change effortlessly," she added.
