Mobile management demand driving managed services

Coping with consumerisation offers managed service providers a much greater opportunity in the short term than cloud computing.

Those selling managed services products are being inundated with customer demands for solutions that can manage tablets and smart phones and the analysts have also identified this as a growing side of the market.

Dave Sobel, director of partner community at Level Platforms, told a reseller event in London today that the cloud opportunity worldwide stood at between $167bn to $200bn but the size of the mobility space was $1tn to $2th, five to ten times as much.

He warned managed service providers that had standardised to be careful they missed out on the market opportunities.

"Some people have standardised on a customer stack very nicely but then the iPad comes along," he added "You simply cannot standardise anymore."

Dan Wensley, vice president of partner development and marketing at Level Platforms, said that 80% of customers it talked to were now demanding some sort of help with mobile device management.

"We have never seen that sort of demand from customers for a managed service before," he said.
