A grand total of 12 resellers have been named to the Pro5 public sector buying consortium's new software and associated services framework, which covers over 200 local authorities and public sector organisations across the country, with two firms, Yorkshire-based Software Box and Phoenix Software, being selected in all four lots.

The new framework, which runs to 2016 and could potentially represent as much as £80m worth of business for the channel, covers four specific areas, Microsoft software; security software; commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS) and education software.

Among the successful parties are Bytes, which was named to three lots - Microsoft, security and COTS - along with competitors Insight and Softcat.

Meanwhile, Essex-based Academia was named to both COTS and education, while Caretower and Civica were both named to the security framework, and 2Simple Software, SCC, Viglen and Whizz Education all made it onto the education framework.

Softcat public sector frameworks manager Andy Bruen hailed a "significant opportunity to forge closer links with our local government customers and associated bodies".

"We can provide expert advice to organisations sourcing specialist software - our customers see that as one of our key strengths and differentiators," Bruen added.
