Some in the channel continue to believe that cloud is hype but those working at SAP can thank demand for services in that area for boosting the bottom line.
The software vendor delivered first quarter results that included relatively modest gains in sofware revenue growth, at 4% year-on-year, and software related services turnover going up by 13% but on the cloud front revenue grew by 625% from €4m to €29m.
That growth was largely due to the acquisition of SuccessFactors but along with demand for its HANA big data software the overall revenue for the three months ended 31 March was €3.35 billion, an increase of 11% on the previous year.
"We see strong momentum for our flagship in-memory platform SAP HANA, our cloud and mobile solutions, and our core applications and analytics products," said Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe, Co-CEOs, SAP.
"We're confident that we'll deliver on our business outlook for Q2 and the full year," he added.
