Storage ISV Debriefing is targeting partners of both Brocade and IBM with the UK launch of its cloud-based storage resource management (SRM) and monitoring tool Wizards Storage Portal.
First conceived by Danish IBM reseller B4Restore and later spun out into a separate company to avoid channel conflict, its software has already found a ready audience in the Nordics, with customer references including Bang & Olufsen and Lego.
Wizards works alongside existing SRM technologies IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, Storwize and San Volume Controller products, as well as Brocade SAN switches to give partners a clear view into their customers' IBM estates and actively monitor storage and backup as part of a managed services agreement. Pricing varies depending on nodes, storage capacity or ports managed.
"Obviously being delivered as a service it reduces customer CAPEX, and being cloud-based brings down OPEX. It means end-users don't need to invest in IBM-trained people, and budgeting and forecasting becomes far more effective," said Debriefing global sales director Paul Ström.
It is designed for resellers to make available as a free trial and includes several features, such as a mobile app for tablets, that IBM cannot provide itself.
Chief marketing officer Peter Wharton said the product could serve as a useful first step for traditional Big Blue storage resellers keen to implement a managed services practice. "Ultimately, we're also encouraging resellers to sell more IBM," he said.
