Acer eyes corporate resellers with new channel programme

Acer has revealed details of a new partner programme, launching in June, that it hopes will enable it to take a larger slice of the corporate market, while keeping focus on the SMB sector.

The relaunched Acer Synergy Partner Programme will classify its 2,000 UK partners according to performance, experience and key market segment.

Top tier Platinum partners will therefore be doing the bulk of their business as solution sales - including clients, servers and storage - among medium and large enterprise clients, while Gold partners are expected to focus more on mid-sized and SMB solution sales.

Two more levels, Silver and Point, will deal with resellers addressing the SOHO market, and SMB and SOHO-centric partners with at least one shop window, explained commercial business head Nathan Knight.

Acer has also added two specialist levels around high-performance computing, and education.

The usual varying support levels and sales and marketing perks will be made available depending on tier.

"What a corporate client wants from us is very different to a small business, or a school," said Acer UK marketing head Linda Hassall. "We wanted to adapt the programme and make it about best practice."

Knight told MicroScope that with its consumer marketshare hovering in the low 20s, it was felt that Acer now needed to focus its energies on selling further up the technology stack and "communicating a stronger story."

Its current status as supplier of PC and server kit to the London Olympics is also helping it get in front of potential new partners, as well as helping it re-engage with those that may have fallen by the wayside, said Hassall.
