The evidence that customers are continuing to ignore security warnings continues to mount with
another piece of vendor research adding to a growing pile of worrying findings over the high levels
of exposure users have to threats.
Already this week there have been indications that the insurance industry is struggling to reduce
its risk levels and now The Bunker has published its latest security survey which underlines the
trend that although awareness is rising very little is being done about it.
The data centre specialist found that 67% of organisations knew that the threats were out there and
had watched the likes of Sony and Citigroup suffer major problems but they have done nothing to
address it.
Part of the problem stems from the fact that 35% revealed that because security was not somebodies
responsibility at board level it had fallen through the cracks.
Peregrine Newton, CEO of The Bunker, said that security still continued to be seen as something
that tended to be ignored until a breach had occurred,
"Many businesses fail to give security the attention it deserves until they themselves have been
the victim of a breach. Yet by this point the impact will often already have been devastating in
both reputational and financial terms. In a difficult financial climate it's imperative that
organisations heed the warnings of previous well-publicised attacks on their peers," he
said.
