Veeam ready to pass on leads from free Backup

Veeam has extended its free download offering to its Backup product, expecting it to generate leads for channel partners.

The virtualisation specialist has made some of its other products free as trial versions before but has now extended that to its Backup product. The free version can be used indefinitely but the expectation from the vendor is that users will want to buy the extra functionality of the full version.

Both VMware and Microsoft versions are available for downloading with the vendor passing on the leads of those that try the product to its channel partners.

Ian Wells, director of Northern Europe at Veeam, said that its experience in the past with other free versions had been a decent conversion rate over to the full blown product.

He added that it was also going to be a useful way of smoking out those customers that were using Microsoft Hyper-V.

"Microsoft has a growing market share and this will help us identify those customers that have chosen to go with Hyper-V," he said.
