Magirus gets prescription for new VSPEX

Magirus is to offer EMC's midmarket-focused VSPEX cloud infrastructure product alongside its own SME vBundle offering after extending its partnership with the firm, and will be launching two new channel-enablement programmes to help boost sales of the recently-launched solution.

Its 'Ready to Fly' programme will support resellers new to EMC through the process of reaching Velocity Affiliate status - a process Magirus claims it can bring down to just six months - while 'Partnering for Profit' will assist existing EMC Velocity resellers in becoming Premier partners.

Both programmes will specialist technical training alongside market development, sales and deployment support from 80 datacentre consultants working within Magirus.

The distie will offer a single point of supply for VSPEX at its datacentre assembly facility in France, which will churn out 14 configurations comprised of compute and networking options from Brocade and Cisco; VMware, and EMC VNX and VNXe unified storage.

EMC vice president of EMEA channels, Philippe Fossé, told MicroScope that VSPEX sat neatly between and the more rigid confines of the Vblock proposition and the flexibility of a bespoke cloud solution.

"VSPEX brings the benefits of that flexibility, but removes the risk because it's a pre-validated solution," he explained.

Magirus executive VP and COO, Christian Magirus, said that while the distie's in-house vBundles had achieved "excellent traction" the firm was keen to offer something more, backed up by the power of a vendor of EMC's scale.

"What we like is the fact that we can now offer a full range of datacentre options, from VSPEX to vBundles through to Vblock, so our channel partners can choose what they want to sell depending on his customer needs," Magirus said.
