Microsoft rolls out small business competency

Microsoft has taken further steps to encourage resellers to increase the emphasis they make on selling the cloud, particularly into the SME customer base.

The software giant launched its small business competency for partners that can help smaller customers take advantage of using cloud services and it is running a promotion to tempt resellers into going for the certification.

From now until the end of the year it will set partners back $999, almost half price, to get qualified for the silver small business competency, which includes sitting an exam and showing that there is at least bone certified professional and licensing expert on-site.

The vendor is listing the potential size of the market as one of the main benefits for those resellers that get involved with selling cloud services and applications to SMEs now, potentially ahead of their competition.

In her blog Microsoft's partner network's general manager Julie Bennani said that the move to introduce the competency had been something that resellers had been pushing for.

"Many small business specialist community partners have asked us to level the SBSC program with the other MPN competencies. This is exactly what we are doing with this new Small Business Competency. We would love to invite all our SBSC partners into the new Small Business Competency," she wrote.
