Dell has emerged as the winner in the bidding war for Quest Software after its $2.4bn offer trumped the rival private equity porposal.
Venture Capital Partners had looked like becoming the next owner of Quest but a rival bid from Dell, who at forst was a mytstery suitor, was tabled last week and got the backing of the software firm's board.
Quest is no stranger to acquisitions itself buying ten times in the last four years and the IT management and software specialist will provide Dell with the in-house skills to integrate and develop better applications.
Quest described the Dell buy as good news for its channel partners because it was becoming part of a larger brand with a global footpront and there was also a positive with the entire staff being kept on.
“The addition of Quest will enable Dell to deliver more competitive server, storage, networking and end user computing solutions and services to customers,” said John Swainson, president, Dell Software Group.
In response Vinny Smith, chairman and CEO of Quest Software, said that the combination of Dell products and its own created a good combination for partners and customers.
