EMC offers disties assembly role

Simon Quicke

EMC has stepped up the support options for resellers after allowing distributors to become assembly centres for a range of its storage options.

The vendor has already taken steps this year to encourage its partners into more of a services role, particularly around the cloud, but is now doing more to get its distributors doing more on the assembly front.

Distributors will be able to assemble VNX, VNXe storage systems as well as Data Domain backup and Avamir deduplication systems and deliver them to resellers or drop ship on the partner's behalf directly with the customer.

Currently the assembly can be done by authorised partners in the channel but this provides more choices of sourcing for resellers.

Daniel Coetsier, vice president of global services at EMC, said that it wanted to show a commitment to the channel and increasing the services opportunities was something that it had started to do this year and would continue to expand on in the future.

"We have more things planned with further announcements for services. We want to keep enabling partners to get more into services to move higher into the stack," he said.

He added that it expected a number of distributors to take up the opportunity to become accredited, which involves getting staff trained on the products that are part of the programme and said some were currently looking at signing the agreement.

Christian Magirus, executive vice president & COO at Magirus, said that the trend was for multi-vendor infrastructure solutions so the ability to assemble the components made it much quicker for the channel to satisfy their customers.

"EMC's new assembly services are a critical component for Magirus to deliver VSPEX and EMC's unified storage and backup solutions pre-tested, configured and tailored to meet resellers' customer needs faster and easier," he said.
