Fujitsu, Arrow ECS to offer virtualised backup bundles

Fujitsu has teamed up with Arrow ECS to launch a line of solutions designed to help resellers address end-user virtualised backup scenarios.

The new Virtual Machine Protection (VMP) appliance is a combination of Fujitsu’s Primergy servers, Eternus storage systems and Symantec’s NetBackup software.

DatacentreAccording to Fujitsu, the VMP bundles will provide “consistent protection” for data held in virtual machines, cutting risk and boosting recovery times, while direct integration with VMware provides off-host backup capabilities, where protection is handed back to the physical infrastructure so as not to impact VM performance.

The firm reckons this will prove attractive to partners trying to implement consolidated datacentre and storage solutions for SME customers. A modular “building-block” design makes the appliance is easy to adapt when business requirements change, which could help partners drive more incremental revenues, according to Arrow ECS UK managing director Steve Pearce.

Fujitsu UK and Ireland TPG channel and enterprise sales director Simon Worsfold said: “Arrow ECS is perfectly placed to help our partners drive sales of virtualised backup solutions.

“This is a very attractive set of offerings and one that once again shows how Fujitsu is working to deliver new ideas and more potential for enterprise and midmarket partners,” he added.

The duo are to make four pre-defined VMP configurations available at first, to suit a range of needs including optimised tape-based protection to disaster-recovery compliant, disk-based protection.
