Acronis plans strategy shift to meet BYOD challenge

Acronis has hired a former Red Hat executive as it looks to grow beyond its traditional backup and recovery markets to get a slice of the action in the dynamic consumerisation market space.

Scott Crenshaw is takikng up a newley created role of senior vice president of strategy and chief marketing officer with a brief of masterminding the chance in direction at the vendor.

Crenshaw had been vice president and general manater of the cloud business unit at Red Hat, starting off that business for the open source vendor.

He gave a hint of the direction that Acronis would be heading in as it looks to create an angle on the boom in the consumerisation of IT: "“IT organisations are struggling to maintain control and relevance as end users introduce iPads, cloud services and other new collaboration tools that demand access to the network."

“When combined with the volume and velocity of data creation, this new BYOD user-led IT frontier presents unnecessary data access, availability and protection headaches," he added.

Ironically, technologies for cloud and virtualisation, which were intended to simplify, have created an IT management nightmare. Acronis is well positioned to build on its strong heritage and help organisations maximise the capability of the cloud and the virtual infrastructure.”
