In another worrying sign that the recession is biting hard, Ingram Micro is canning several of its country operations in Europe, the broadliner revealed this morning.
Among the changes being made on the continent, Ingram Micro has entered an agreement to sell off its Danish operation - minus its data capture/point of storage business - to Euro distribution force Actebis. The deal is expected to close in Q3, and Ingram has claimed no jobs are at risk.
Meanwhile, the distributor has restructured the rest of its Nordic business to focus exclusively on the Swedish market, shutting down its Finnish and Norwegian units for good during the next three months. There will also be an unspecified number of redundancies in Sweden.
Ingram Micro EMEA president Jay Forbes said: "The combination of the rapid deterioration in the global economy, the corresponding reduction in IT spend and persistent price erosion has created the need for an appropriate response. As a responsible business we need to re-position our broadline business for long-term success."
