BSA takes first scalp in London campaign

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) has taken its first major scalp in its two month anti-piracy campaign in London after announcing a settlement with the exclusive celebrity hang-out Soho House.

The private members' club was investigated for apparent under-licensing on Microsoft applications and after being found to have an issue opted to settle with the BSA for an undisclosed sum that MicroScope understands was several thousand pounds.

The revelation of the Soho House settlement comes just a fortnight after the BSA launched a two-month campaign in the capital aimed at informing, educating and forcing compliance with companies that were using illegal software or under-licensing.

Alyna Cope, spokesperson for BSA's UK country committee, said that the use of illegal software was a drain on the economy and hit the creative industries hard.

"Businesses that persist in installing and using illegal software are infringing copyright legislation and directly threaten the business environment at the heart of London's growth - particularly the vital technology and creative sector," she said.
