CA reseller survey reveals optimism around virtualisation

Those resellers wondering where the bright spots will be this year will examine the CA Channel Index Survey in some detail.

According to the vendor's trawl of reseller opinions across the UK and Ireland the main area expected to see some growth is around virtualisation and associated management services.

SaaS came second with 44% expecting to see continued customer interest and adoption of cloud-based services.

The views of resellers chime in with forecasts from vendors, including Canalys, with unified communications and managed services also being areas that have been touted as ones likely to weather the economic storm.

Tamar Brooks, UK channel sales director at CA, said it was encouraging to see some positivity in the channel about technology and it was understandable that virtualisation, which could help consolidation and cutting costs, was at the top of the list.

"There's no doubt we're all operating in tough times, but I'm pleased that this survey shows an encouraging balance of realism and optimism within our partner community," she said.

In terms of general views about the economy 80% of resellers said they expected the situation to get worse this year and 89% were anticipating some cuts in customer IT budgets.

But there were significant numbers of dealers that expected the economy and the budgets to only worsen slightly over the next few months.
