Datacentre problems spell reseller opportunity

There are a few technology areas emerging in this recession as areas of continued spending including virtualisation, unified comms and managed services and now datacentre power management plans to join that list.

The Uninterruptible Power Supply market has long been seen as an adjunct to server sales but with those deals slowing down the focus of those running datacentres is turning to improving power and cooling systems.

There is a high need for efficiency increased by the consolidation we see in the datacentres and there is more density in datacentres and that is increasing," said Michael Niotakis, vice president channels, home and business development, EMEA and Latin America at APC By Schneider Electric.

He added that it had revised its partner programme with the aim of tapping into the opportunities that existed in the datacentre market for power control management and most companies were open to a pitch that helped save money.

"The IT budget in the datacentre is very visible to a CFO and users cannot complete their projects rollouts [until they deal with] power and cooling issues," he added.

The partner programme aims to not only stir loyalty and expertise from partners but rewards them with support, training and leads into some of the customers looking to invest in power management to tackle database problems.

APC Schneider Electric has also started a financial promotion to stir users with resellers being able to offer the package to customers. Niotakis said that the finance package had been rolled out across Europe.
