HP UK channel boss to move roles

Paul Kunert

Hewlett-Packard is looking to externally recruit a head for its Personal Systems Group (PSG) as it emerged that Dave Poskett is in line to take on a channel role in the business unit under the revamped organisational structure.

The channel management teams have been folded into the Enterprise Server and Storage (ESS) and Technology Solutions Group (TSG) product divisions and the same is happening to the bods that looked after PC and printer resellers.

This leaves the Solutions Partner Organisation - the channel team headed by Poskett which managed resellers on behalf of the business units - without an obvious role.

Sources had claimed that he was due to become UK and Ireland vice president of PSG, succeeding David Wright who exited the firm in July, but it now appears highly likely that Poskett will take a role overseeing channel partners in PSG.

Jos Brenkel, head of PSG for the Mediterranean, Middle East and Africa has been in the UK since July but as yet has been unable to find a suitable replacement, on behalf of Eric Cadour, who runs the PSG function in EMEA.

Resellers have claimed that this rather calls into question the power held by new UK and Ireland managing director Nick Wilson, who is clearly not calling the shots in appointing the PSG chief for his country operation.

It seems that HP is seeking a senior exec that has a strong background in retail, the only part of the UK PC space to grow last quarter according to IDC and one in which HP lost ground.

HP refused to comment.
