Mergers and acquisitions activity in the technology and telecoms space has stabilised after 18 months of fluctuations fuelled by the fragile state of the economy.

The return to a more even balance between buyers and sellers has been welcomed by M&A tracker Regent Associates which has just issued figures covering last month.

One of the stand out buys in December came from Capita which acquired comms IT specialist Synetrix for £75m and voicemail provider Spinvox was snapped up by Nuance Comms for $102.5m.

In a statement accompanying the figures Regent said that it had been looking for stability to return to the market for quite some time.

"At last we seem to have achieved that situation. Deal flow and valuation multiples have been quite consistent over the final quarter of 2009," it stated.
