TCA boss vows to up its game

The Technology Channels Association's (TCA) newly appointed CEO will try to dispel perceptions that the trade body is a toothless tiger and endeavour to improve attitudes' to SME resellers outside of the industry.

Adam Harris has relinquished his directorship at reseller Bear IT to take on the role, and wants to bolster the 800-strong membership's strict code of conduct to ensure there is no repeat of incidents that recently cost one firm its place in the TCA.

"We have a code of conduct but I want to develop an accreditation system so resellers can get to a certain level with respect to customer service and [which governs] how they operate in the industry," he told MicroScope.

"The IT sector does have a relatively bad reputation with Joe Public based on small businesses trying to take short cuts, mis-selling, illegal software, installing the wrong kit. These companies are representing our industry and need to be stamped out."

The Professional Computing Association and the Mac Dealer Association came together earlier this year to form the TCA.

However, one of the problems the PCA always faced was perceptions that it was an ineffective old-boys network.

"My aim is to dispel these perceptions, speak to the bigger vendors and distributors to find out what they want from us and create a voice that represents the entire industry," said Harris.

Keith Warburton, one of the PCA's founding fathers, has been pushed upstairs to become president, focusing on industry issues, Government and PR.
