IBM unveils low-cost SME suite at Lotusphere

In a reflection of the tough times that customers face IBM has unveiled low cost packages and highlighted its free software offerings at Lotusphere.

The event has already been a platform to unveil Alloy, the first product produced from a tie-up between Lotus and SAP, and a greater push into the cloud by has now also included product launches pitched specifically at the SME end of the market.

Lotus Foundations is a suite of products that targets the 5-500 sized companies that are looking for ways to collaborate applications including e-mail and file sharing.

In addition IBM is also continuing to push its free Lotus Symphony package, which it revealed had passed the global 3m download mark.

Aimed as an alternative to Microsoft Office the expectation is clearly that more users will adopt the free word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
