Marshal and 8e6 announce equal merger to create global web security specialist

Web mail security specialist Marshal had entered into "a merger of equals" with US based vendor 8e6.

The merger follows moves that Marshal had been making to bolster its position in the US market and visa versa attempts by 8e6 to increase its business in Europe.

Ed McNair, CEO of Marshal, said the deal had been a year in the making and was originally suggested by advisors it had been working with in the US.

He added that it would form a joint venture Marshal8e6 and the merger had been equal and there were no dominant partners going forward.

Paul Myer, president and COO of 8e6, said that it had appointed Wick Hill as its distributor in the UK and it had been growing its channel through that appointment but to really increase its activity in the British market it needed to set up a base here.

"We will have feet on the street in the UK that we didn't have in the past and the product sets of Marshal and 8e6 are complimentary as well," adding the deal would benefit its resellers.

"We are not going to be announcing big layoffs or closing any offices but be building a worldwide security company," he added.
