Former HP channel boss Poskett tipped to leave UK biz

The UK restructure within Hewlett-Packard UK has taken shape with some of the key roles filled but question marks still hang over the permanent position to be taken up by former channel head Dave Poskett.

The vendor no longer manages partners under the Solutions Partner Organisation with reseller teams folded into their respective business units: Enterprise Servers & Storage, Technology Solutions Group, Imaging and Printing Group and PSG.

As a result, SPO has become an administrative shell - handling rebate claims from partners and determining their marketing funds - while Dave Poskett, director of that unit has moved to become channel sales director for PSG.

He was unveiled to resellers last month but HP has refused to confirm the new role to MicroScope amid suggestions from channel insiders that Poskett will in fact join Jos Brenkel, head of PSG Middle East Mediterranean and Africa (MEMA).

Brenkel has managed PSG in the UK since David Wright left the business in the summer but a permanent replacement has been found and he is expected to return to MEMA at the end of the year and task Poskett with project work.

The ProCurve Networking Division has been merged with ESS at a local level to form ESSN, but Daryl Brick, UK country manager for HP's networking business will report to the European vice president of ProCurve Carlos Sartorius.

As a result of the move, ESSN sales staff will carry a quota for ProCurve and the technology will be integrated with server and storage. Iain Stephen will head up ESSN in the UK.

Elsewhere Martin Hess, HP sales director that had responsibility for the internal teams is heading up G1k in the UK, a global unit that is determining the 1000 accounts which will be heavily managed by the vendor.

The confirmation of these global accounts is taking longer than anticipated as customers that are big spenders in one country of Europe or North America may not be in others.

"These 1,000 accounts should have a lot more focus from HP and in the fullness of time some resellers could be concerned about this," said one channel source.
