Hewlett-Packard has introduced a big data certification programme to support its Vertica Analytics Platform as a reaction to growth in the market.
The programme, available through ExpertOne, comes as big data emerges as
one of the themes of the year and comes with strong predictions of more growth from a number of
analyst houses.
One of the warnings from one of those analyst firms, Gartner, has predicted that there will not be enough in-house skilled staff to manage big data.
As a result of a significant shortfall, around two-thirds, the channel will have to step in and deliver the skills.
HP will offer the certification based on experience with the Vertica platform and some coursework with an exam for resellers to pass to get the right to declare themselves able to deliver big data.
“Our partners and customers are eager to complete a formal certification process that establishes their qualifications as Big Data experts,” said Byron Berk, manager, services and training at HP Vertica.
