Veeam extends backup to cloud programme

Virtualisation specialist Veeam has taken the wraps off a range of enhancements to its cloud provider programme adding its Backup Management Suite into the mix.

The vendor already works with 1,500 cloud providers across EMEA providing monthly licensing based on virtual machine usage that are available to purchase through Veeam's reseller network.

The decision to extend backup into the offering means that cloud partners can deliver more of a data protection and management story to customers and reduce the risks of data loss.

The vendor recently spoke to MicroScope about the need for resellers to help customers "take baby steps" into the cloud with backup an ideal solution to start with because it was proven to work and would increase user confidence in hosted solutions.

Gilles Pommier, EMEA channel director at Veeam Software, said that the decision to make changes to the cloud provider programme came in response to market trends, which were being driven largely by customers.

“Data protection is quickly expanding to the cloud, which provides a convenient and cost-effective platform for offsite backups and disaster recovery. At the same time hosting companies today are driven by the need of productivity increase, cost control and improved level of services," he said.

"Our business has always been about creating partnerships, and our latest expansion of the Veeam Cloud Provider program is another example of how we strengthen those relationships by better meeting the needs of our partners," he added.
