Tech Data attempts to tap big data trend

Steve Bell

The UK arm of global distributor Tech Data has added the SAP Sybase IQ system to its software portfolio in a move designed to strengthen relationships with SAP resellers.

The company says it can now offer resellers access to the largest range of SAP solutions available through distribution. At the same time it is trying to woo more SAP resellers into its PartnerEdge programme.

Tech Data says Sybase IQ provides simpler and more affordable big data analytics and data warehousing than comparable technologies and adds that it believes Sybase IQ is faster and more efficient for extreme-scale data warehousing and big data analytics.

The inclusion of Sybase IQ in its SAP profile is part of a wider move to draw more resellers into its fold in order to ride the crest of the big data wave.

James Reed, director of software, Tech Data UK said: “With SAP Sybase IQ, resellers can expand their horizons… by engaging on the SAP PartnerEdge programme… [they] can tap into tremendous opportunities…. We see good opportunities here and want to encourage more resellers to engage with us and with SAP to explore the growth potential.”

Industry analysts IDC claim that big data analytics is currently worth an estimated $100bn (£62bn). In a recent report, Maturity Model: Big Data and Analytics, it said that many organisations don’t have the competency and maturity required to address technology, staffing and process requirements that are needed to make the most from big data assets.
