Unify signs up Westcon’s Dean Douglas

Distribution hotshot heads vendor-side to run freshly-rebranded enterprise comms outfit Unify

Enterprise comms JV Unify – formerly Siemens Enterprise Communications – has revealed Dean Douglas is to join the company next year as its new CEO.

Douglas resurfaced just a day after the industry learned he was stepping down from his previous role at Westcon, to be replaced by former Dell man Dolph Westerbos.

However it comes after a lengthy search for a new CEO at Unify, according to chairman Mark Stone, who said the firm had now found an “ideal successor and leader”.

“[Dean] brings deep understanding of the enterprise technology industry and intensive experience of successful sales channel and partnership development in a variety of international roles, which will be essential as we continue the transformation of Unify into the most capable supplier in the industry.

“Dean has an impressive track record of creating growth both organically and via successful acquisitions,” he added.

Douglas commented: “I am very excited about joining Unify.  It has a long and distinguished heritage, and yet has an agenda to reinvent itself and the industry.  Cloud-based delivery opens up entirely new consumption, commercial and distribution models and I see Unify as perfectly positioned to innovate new ways for enterprise users to access the best collaboration tools.

“I look forward to working with Hamid as I transition into the role.   We will continue to open the eyes of the industry to what is possible, and then deliver – creating new value for our customers, partners, shareholders and our people,” he concluded.

Prior to Westcon Douglas enjoyed stints at LCC International, IBM and Motorola. He will be formally confirmed in the role on 16 January 2014, at which point his predecessor, Hamid Akhavan, will move to a new role on the executive board.
