The battle for smart phones and tablets in the SME space continues to be a two-horse race between Apple and Samsung with small firms continuing to favour the iPhone and iPad.
According to figures that cover the first ten months of this year from Intermedia, which monitors the user activations for its cloud services applications, 76% of SME users were using Apple mobile products.
This goes against the common perception that has Samsung out in front in terms of market share, but Apple's great rival is sitting comfortably in second place having elbowed out other Android-based alternatives.
“Many customers already use Intermedia services on smartphones and tablets as the primary front-end for running their business. Our ActiveSync figures show that small and medium-sized businesses are choosing Apple for mobile delivery of their cloud IT services at an incredible rate,” said Ed Macnair, managing director of Intermedia, EMEA.
“Samsung and Apple will compete intensely for these business users by driving down prices, extending functionality and addressing SMB needs like security, all of which will benefit businesses that are embracing cloud services and mobility," he added.
Microsoft is lagging behind with just 1% of Intermedia's customers using its products to activate services, but there are expectations that the market share will grow next year.
Another finding from the vendor's Small and medium Business Mobile Trends Report was that the iPhone 5c, the cheaper model from Apple, had not made much oimpact with SMEs with customers spending more on the higher priced 5s model.
