Cloud delivering the numbers for SAP

Simon Quicke

SAP has been beating the drum about the growth of its cloud subscription numbers over the course of last year as well as the impact of its big data offering HANA in its full year numbers.

The software player has been transitioning more of its customer base towards a hosted solution over the course of the last year and its subscription and support revenue increased by 130% to €758m in preliminary results for 2013.

Revenues from the traditional software and services operations increased by 12% to €14.03bn and operating profit was also up by 13% to €5.9bn. The HANA business was also productive with a 69% climb in turnover to €664m.

Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe, Co-CEOs of SAP, were upbeat about the numbers: “Four years of double-digit growth clearly shows that our customer-focused innovation strategy is winning. We are one of the few global tech companies that has successfully managed the transition to the cloud while growing our core business and improving our profitability at the same time."

“SAP invested significantly in innovation and successfully scaled its cloud business while maintaining operational discipline and reaching our 2013 operating profit outlook,” added Werner Brandt, CFO of SAP.
