Application performance management solutions specialist Ipanema is making a renewed pitch to channel partners, and has conceded that its application assurance message may have been a bit too far ahead of the curve in the past.
Given the rapid evolution of the application delivery supply chain – thanks to BYOD, mobility and as emerging trends such as wearable tech and the Internet of Things – IT managers have often become dispossessed of control, and in desperation have increased bandwidth when they didn’t necessarily need to, according to Ipanema’s marketing VP, Beatrice Piquer-Durand.
Ipanema now claims its autonomic solution is better placed than ever before to help customers get to grips with WAN optimisation, acceleration, visibility, control and management, all in order to deliver a better overall experience.
“Why we say we go beyond WAN optimisation is because only 20% of bandwidth is used by business critical applications so users are increasing bandwidth when they don’t necessarily need to,” said Piquer-Durand
“Many customers experience app performance issues even though they increased their bandwidth capabilities; they need a solution to take back control and to continue to run business critical applications, so this is what we now deliver.
“We may have been too early to the market but our vision was sound and now that’s being confirmed,” she added.
Dan Poulter, senior product marketing manager at Ipanema partner BT said customers were still inclined to blame the network for application outages when often such issues were unrelated.
“From a service provider perspective Ipanema is becoming a real enabler when talking about application SLAs, which is something we are moving towards,” he said. “Being able to elevate the conversation from connectivity to application SLAs is important.”
Ipanema channel director Chris Vick urged partners to build up more of a message around application management and awareness.
Areas of business particularly ripe for investment include highly distributed businesses such as retail, according to BT’s Poulter, while Vick added that Ipanema itself is on the prowl for Microsoft Lync specialists, saying the expected growth in Microsoft’s unified comms ecosystem would be a huge driver for application performance management.
