Epson bolsters inkjet options for SMEs

Epson has reacted to the continued growth in the business inkjet printer market, which has been bolstered by more users turning to the products instead of laser alternatives, rolling out a number of enhancements designed to make it easier for partners to pitch the technology.

The vendor has been taking the wraps off a number of initiatives at anevent in Vienna designed to cut the running costs and power consumption of its inkjet range and was flanked by IDC, with the analyst providing an update on the state of the market.

“As a whole the business inkjet market is growing year on year, maintaining growth even in years when laser sales have declined.  Business inkjet products are expected to account for 25% of the business printer and multifunction market by 2017," said Phil Sargeant, program director, at IDC.

Having invested heavily in a Japanese production facility Epson has launched its replaceable ink pack system that reduces the need for a consumables change as well as improved PrecisionCore printhead technology that reduces printer running costs.

Andrew Semple, head of business imaging at Epson Europe, said that the improvements in the inkjet technology range offered "more flexibility and potential than laser" and gave small business users the chance to get access to some of the features traditionally associated with industrial printers.
