Lenovo looks for more channel growth

Lenovo is looking to build on a strong year of channel growth with even more investment and ambitions for its reseller base

Lenovo is continuing to hunt for resellers, building on a year of strong growth in its channel numbers last year, as it looks for vertical expertise and storage and server players.

With the vendor putting more muscle behind its server and storage efforts and appointing Arrow Electronics as a distributor yesterday the ambition is to keep developing the channel with the potential to add to the 2,500 partners across the UK.

As well as vertical market knowledge in public sector, education and SME there is a particular focus on mid-market with the vendor putting internal resource behind attempts to stimulate reseller activity in that area.

"If that team needs to expand then that's what it will do. People are aligned to those verticals and we will go to the market together with partners bringing us business and executing on that. We are keeping consistent with partners," said Darren Phelps, channel director UKI and head of SMB at Lenovo.

He added that it had outlined plans at the start of the year at a partner event to grow in mid-market and make life easier for resellers and was delivering on those pledges with the recent online bid pricing tool a good example of how it was working harder to smooth the passage of business for those that sold its products.

"We have done a good job of being consistent with partners and have had 14 quarters of consistent growth through our channel across consumer, enterprise, SME and public sector," he added "We have had good growth in the last year [in channel numbers] and want to grow it faster."
