As the Beijing Olympic Games enter their last two days and Team GB looks set to return with its largest medal haul for a century, the IOC’s IT services partner, Atos Origin, has started preparations for the London 2012 Games.
According to Atos Origin, initial planning meetings have already taken place with the London organising committee and it will move key members of its IT team to London over the next few months.
Having worked on Olympic projects in various capacities since Barcelona ‘92, Atos Origin has built up a vast amount of resource and expertise around the Games which it hopes to add to over the next four years. For London, it will be pushing a redesigned infrastructure that it hopes will meet the organisers’ carbon neutral targets.
Resellers and integrators based in the south east of England will
also be gearing up to get involved with associated projects. Although the
Olympic IT systems themselves are pretty much a closed shop, the next four
years will see a host of parallel projects in areas such as transport
infrastructure and hospitality.
