Alcatel hops on Royal Wedding tat bandwagon

Last month we brought you news that mobile phone accessory outfit Proporta was launching a lovely Royal Wedding themed iPhone case...

Well, now low-end mobile phone outfit Alcatel - a JV between Alcatel-Lucent and China's TCL - has gone one better and released an actual phone to go with it.

The horrendous £14.95 candybar handset - a slightly tarted up version of Alcatel's no-frills 1p OT-209 phone - sports a fetching Union Jack design, plays Mendelssohn's Wedding March and has the happy couple's initials tastefully emblazoned on the back.

Available, if you must know, at Carphone Warehouse, the press release claims this will be the "perfect gift" for those joining the celebrations!

Pushed for something to say about this, poor Carphone commercial director Mark Eastham drew the short straw and was ushered reluctantly into the media spotlight.

"It's great to offer a product which really taps into the national spirit over the coming months, and is still an affordable option for customers," he said.

You just keep telling yourself that, Mark. You keep telling yourself that...
