I have to say I agree with Microsoft's bid to prevent Apple registering 'app store' as a trademark. I'm not sure what Steve Jobs and co are up as it seems to be fairly self-evident that the term is becoming generic. Admittedly, Apple has helped it to become so, but if it was to be given the trademark that would be like giving the person who opened the first shop the trademark to the word 'shop', the owner of the first bar the trademark to the word 'bar', the list would be endless.

Mind you, if somebody had trademarked a whole load of words way back, we wouldn't be having this problem because 'app' and 'store' would already belong to someone else.
