Beware: Christmas is coming

Beware: Christmas is coming

It won't be a surprise to readers to know that Christmas is almost upon us.

But in the run-up to Christmas office parties and other forms of celebration become the norm, as does the potential for things to go wrong; parties are, sadly, regulated.

Employers (and by extension, businesses) need to be aware that they may need a licence if alcohol is to be served at a party for a charge; that there is a strict limit of £150 per person per year (including VAT) for a party (or parties over the year) if a benefit in kind charge for the employees is to be avoided; and that both PRS and PPL licences are needed if music is to be played.

Further, employers have a range of legal responsibilities that follow from parties.

The advice? Take good advice now.
