Businesses leave physical security to chance

With the August riots behind us some are still wondering just what they have to do to keep their businesses safe and out of harm's way. Well according to NGS Meridian, some firms just don't pay enough attention to their security and they offer the following advice.

Firstly, be proactive and don't just consider the contents of your premises; also think about the outside and perimeter too and make sure that you fully control access to all parts of the business, especially the more sensitive areas.

Utilise the effect of CCTV both as a deterrent and as a method of actively watching what is going on. If anything untoward happens, investigate it immediately rather than waiting until the event is over and the offenders have left.

Your staff might be your weakest link so make it a policy to only tell those who really need to know when it comes to something sensitive (such as a high value product shipment).

And finally, lead by example. Don't expect rules to be broken to let you in just because you've forgotten your access card...
