Diluting the Agency Workers Regulations

They've not even been brought into law yet but rumours are circulating that the Government - more specifically the Prime Minister - is looking at diluting the effect of the Agency Workers Regulations.

Due to take effect in two days time, on 1 October, the Regulations give agency workers after 12 weeks service the same basic employment rights that cover pay, holiday and maternity as permanent members of staff receive.

Reports says that discussions have been held with the TUC and the CBI to find changes that would be acceptable to both employers and workers. The discussions have come to nought but a review hasn't been totally abandoned. One suggestion is that the Government reviews the Regulations after one year with a view to making changes then.
