According to a recent survey of over 1200 people by recruitment website HireScores, many lie in interviews to get the job. Whilst there are harmless white lies and dirty deceitful black lies, which are the most common? The survey indicates that the top five are:

Salary (67%)

Qualifications (61%)

Experience (58%)

Reason for job change (54%)

Career commitment (52%)

Some said the dishonesty - because that's what it is - is aimed at getting a drastic pay rise or because they want to impress the employer.

Whatever the reason, there are steps employers should take to weed out hooky applicants.

The Fraud Advisory Panel suggest that pre-employment screening is a must and should include sight of original documents showing name, address, entitlement to work in the UK, any qualifications and references.

These should then be checked with the issuer - where appropriate - with direct contact.

You may even want to consider a check with the Criminal Records Bureau and the Insolvency Service to see if the individual has anything to hide.
