According to a north western firm of accountants, Mitchell Charlesworth, small businesses in England are missing out on £400 million in Small Business Rate Relief.

The tax break is designed to help small businesses if their rateable value of their premises (plural if there are several sites) is below £12000. More importantly, small businesses with a rateable value of upto £6000 will pay no rates at all until at least September 2012. Between £6000 and £12000 there is a form of tapering relief from 100 percent down to zero.

Businesses who think they might qualify are urged to get the money while they can.
