More grief for drivers

The Government has laid amendments to legislation before Parliament which should, if passed, make life more expensive and painful for non-conforming drivers.

The new rules from 1 February 2011 will increase the on the spot penalties that are levied on overseas drivers for seatbelt and number plate offences from £30 to £60.

So that's Johnny Foreigner dealt with.

But we Brit's are not let off the changes. For those in the UK, the penalties for driving or keeping a vehicle with an obscured number plate, or without a number plate are to rise from £30 to £60 and the penalty for those riding a motorbike with insufficient tyre tread depth will rise from £60 to £120.

You have been warned.
