As a neat followup to last Friday's posting, it's appropriate to mention that the Office of Fair Trading has published a document - Protecting Consumers Online - which details its strategy on protecting consumers online.

The review details the amount that consumers spend online and therefore the value of ecommerce to the UK economy. It also notes that for ecommerce to grow it needs the (continued) trust of consumers who buy through that medium.

The strategy then talks about how web design firms are key to how ecommerce sites interact with consumers, and how businesses need greater and more effective guidance in complying with the law and consumer protection regulations.

The question is - will e-traders sit up and listen?
