Short term, long grass - both connected by Cable

The Coalition Government has been making lots of lovely noises since taking office in May. Whether it's electoral reform, benefits reform or now, business reform, nothing can be placed beyond reach.

In a call for evidence, the Government is taking another pop at those that hold short term views on business. In a consultation document, "A Long Focus for Corporate Britain", the Government wants to look at how investors can be better engaged, how directors can be remunerated better and most importantly, how short term decisions can be kicked into the long grass.

It seems, then, that UK plc is great at positioning itself as being great at corporate governance, but pretty lousy at seeing the long term view.

In this call for evidence the Government sees the best solutions for handling directors rewards and dealing with bad business decisions as coming from business itself. Let's hope it's not a case of poacher turned gamekeeper.
