Employers that aren't careful enough to avoid Employment Tribunals will, from 1 February, be paying more in compensation to successful claimants when the Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order 2010 takes effect.
This Order relates to dismissals that occur on or after 1 February and it increases the maximum awards that a tribunal can make.
Under the Order, a week's pay (used to work out the basic award for unfair dismissal cases) rises to a cap of £400. It's presently £380. Also, the maximum award for compensation for unfair dismissal rises to £68,400 from the current £65,300.
