Dell has confirmed prices on specific products lines have increased as a result of the strengthening dollar, following in the foot steps of rivals Hewlett-Packard and Acer.

On 15 September HP hiked PC and server prices by 5% to 10% as the US currency saw it highest monthly rise for a decade, Acer increased the price of notebooks on the same day due to the fluctuations.

The industry prices in dollars so Dell is not immune to the pressure confirming that it adjusted pricing on individual product lines to reflect the movement on the dollar, rising from $1.55 per £1 to $1.35.

The vendor remained coy about which particular products have been impacted but Andy Dow, UK channel director at Dell told Microscope “we flex our prices as and when we are required to do so.

“It is done by product rather than across the board so it is difficult to provide an average,” he claimed.

Resellers said Dell had moved prices upwards over the last couple of months, prior to this latest movement. “Certain customers have seen price rises over the last one and a half to two months.”

To date, Fujitsu Siemens, Lenovo, and Toshiba have so far resisted the temptation to raise prices on run rate SKUs.

In a rather vague comment, Sun product and marketing manager Chris Atkins, said it kept exchange rates under continuous review and “periodically adjust our pricing to reflect this.”
